| The
mission of the East County Career Center is to serve
the community by providing individuals the guidance and resources necessary to
achieve employment success and to deliver quality workforce services to employers.
The East County Career Center is operated by Grossmont Union High School District
and is the first career center created in San Diego county to provide a one-stop
shop environment for career planning and job search assistance. The
Center has been in the City of El Cajon since 1977 and has formed long-standing
partnerships with many agencies throughout the county including the California
Employment Development Department, San Diego Workforce Partnership, Inc., Grossmont
College, Cuyamaca College, Regional Occupational Program, California Department
of Rehabilitation, Senior Community Service Employment Program, ACCESS Center,
Health and Human Services Agency, and Labor's Community Service Agency. Public
transportation, including bus service and close proximity to freeways, allows
easy access to the Career Center. The
Center offers a full array of job search and career development programs for everyone
throughout the county regardless of age, ethnicity, income, or employment status.
The Center offers a variety of workshops including Job
Search and Workplace Communication Skills,
providing extensive follow up services for every client. Fast
personalized staffing services are available through our Business Strategist
who matches employers with qualified, prescreened, pretested applicants. Employers
can also receive labor market information, targeted recruitment, outplacement
services and on-the-job training benefits. The
Center prides itself on its friendly, helpful, professional staff who provide
immediate client assistance through a centralized intake system. The staff has
up-to-date knowledge of current trends, resources and community referrals contributing
to all aspects of placement, vocational counseling and technology . Workshop instructors
are well-trained and experienced teachers dedicated to the continuous improvement
of curriculum to better meet the needs of the students. Workshops
are practical, informative and interactive so as to involve participants in an
interesting and enjoyable learning environment. The
physical environment of the Center is barrier free, nurturing and supportive.
In an ongoing effort to provide services for persons with disabilities, a TDD
machine is in the resource room and interpreters are provided in workshops, by
request, for the hearing impaired. The Center's unique delivery system is client-focused
