PREPARING YOUR RESUME

The resume is a helpful tool in your job search process. In most cases it doesn't replace an application, but could help you get job interviews. Your resume should reflect the following:

  • Use the skills and traits list to give a quick picture of yourself
  • Use strong action words when listing your skills and traits
  • Have someone proofread your resume for punctuation, grammar and spelling errors
  • Take resume and portfolio to every interview

DON'T

  • Use long, wordy paragraphs to describe yourself
  • Include references on your resume (you can take copies of references & letters of reference with you to interview)
  • Lie or exaggerate
  • Use pronouns, abbreviations, jargon, conjunctions
  • Use a resume that is more than one page
